#Build in public: Ep 2 When building it’s also about measuring, tracking and engaging| The Product Lead Framework
How building SaaS Products are no longer about just a piece of code, PLG motion is about measuring, engaging & converting,
We are in mid of January and we have already created a basement for our empire, what is our empire about what we are up to is due for another article but just to recap our Ep1 we have just announced the product and its a screenshot of the default login page.
Here is little more glimpse to our update, we are trying to build something fresh, something to help sales, marketing and communities
Though it quite early to reveal anything, we are gonna build everything on public you will know our progress as what we are upto m let the suspense be on the air.
The Pros of #buildinpublic is it first pushes you to be shameless, break your inner demons and tries to make you a better maker. More on #buildinpublic for another time but for now i am just excited how ever way this side hustle goes.
How do you like the K boy ? like K-pop, K- Romance we have our klubstacker
Let’s come to Klubstack, like all the other B2B SaaS products we have started with building our Customer’s Customer module “ Prospects”
This is where the customer’s data are stored and it has to be super secure and all the privacy regulations need to be followed as we are developing at the same time seamless experience needs to be given to the end customer.
To be honest Customer/ Prospect module nothing new or innovative to build upon, its been built over like million times and there are tone reference. Building a solution has become way more easy with the advent of frameworks and so many online support and resources what is being different and difficult in the last 10–15 years is making users
1 Onboard
2 Adopt
3 Retain
4 Make them power users
5 Get them to pay
This is vicious cycle product madness that all makers fall trap into, when the funnel drops on each stage by 50% you left with less than .5% of users who might or might not pay you for a product that solves a real world problem.
How do are we gonna make Hard earned efforts of our developers developers Abhisekh and Sumon are not wasted ?
How do you make sure what ever you built it being Adopted , realised its value in the first or 2nd session and retained on the longer run. The ROI of any Product Lead Journey depends on the how quick you push the users to the end of the funnel.
Imagine building house the
Onboarding
Personalised or scenario based onboarding the best way to onboard users but we are at a every early stage, so having a basic guided onboarding would do the job. For now We want the user to from import data with Excel sheet or Import from Hubspot , once that’s done effort to the next step is Aha Moment.
Script of the on-boarding video is still in progress we are in plans of establishing some of the core outcomes of inital aha moment and a very short glimpse of what the application can do on a longer run
Thsi is still in progress but we have rough script on place
Apart from this we are yet to build but the onboarding checklist in on the card, similar to what trello
Postify has done great job of tiying up onboarding checklist to discount as the experience Crispchat
Right now looking for user pilot alternatives or open source alternative to track the onboarding.
For now we have ignored the personalised onboarding as initial set of customers are gonna be through know sources we just wanted to
Product Analytics
This is the most important part of any PLG motion, how would we able to build a great product if we are not measuring it, if we don’t know how the users are using the platform.
We are using Posthog We integration both Backend and frontend implementation with actions an events
You could use Amplitude for product analytics, Hotjar for session recording, Flagsmith for feature control, Segment as your customer data platform, Optimizely for testing, and Redshift for your data warehouse — these are sensible choices.
Posthog has all of the above , its open source and it can slef hosted . what more do you want ? And one more thing
First 1 million events/mo Free
When i hit million event i will be in a position to pay
so just Abhisekh and Sumon was asked to take posthog
What is the outcomes of posthog
You could do 100 user interviews and spend 50 Hours on it
You could do survey and get misled about what user says
You could do ethnographic survey and spend 200 Hours just users life-sytle
Or you could do Posthog session recording and see how the users are really using
1 where are they mislead
2 What are they missing out
3 Where are they struck on the path towards Aha! task
Lets discuss in detail what are the items we are pllanign to track as custom events in poshog.
In App and Out app engagement
Define engagement = “Engagement is when your customer is getting value from your SaaS.”
The In app engagement make sure the users are not lost the first time they land the application and they are not lost as they keep using the app
So far we have planned to Proactive Chatbot
1 Freshchat for live chat and Crisp chat for all in one bot automation
The best thing about using the SendGrid Email API was the performance measured in terms of email deliverability and server uptime. The dashboard provides good insights with respect to number of emails sent, delivered and opened. Thus helps a great deal in improving marketing campaigns. From the deployment point of view, the integration of SendGrid with the existing email service was quite easy and can be completed easily without great efforts.
Great Solution with great UX
Now all the other packages comes will not matter if the solution is buggy or customer is not able achieve his/ her taks within a given timelines, in our case its less than 30 sec to 3 mins , how do i lead him to importing and show the initial awesome trust
We need to incorporate the Help Section of the app with video , just a small video to help user import easily
Success Metrics
We have defined list metrics for the success of the feature
We ar gonna track that using Posthog, Crisp
Feel free to guide and comment on how we should build and any other metrics we should track.
We are humble and open and to anyone join us the journey and help us with your feedback
Stay tuned
